Origin of the Bomber Jackets

As early as World War I when airplanes had open cockpits, pilots began seeking clothing to provide warmth and comfort in the cold temperatures of the open skies.  Thus the birth of the legendary “Bomber Jacket” or “Flight Jacket” was born.

Over the years, there have been many variations from the unofficial and popular early leather flight jacket of 1915 through 1917 to later official military issue bomber jackets such as the 1931 “A2 Bomber Jacket.”

Originally, pilots and crews wore whatever they could find because no formal or official clothing was issued to handle the extreme cold and weather conditions the pilots faced in world war I.  Heavy long leather jackets quickly became popular with tight snug cuffs around the writs, tight fit around the waists, and high collars to help protect from the cold.  These are the design principles that are at the core of what today we commonly think of as a flight jacket or bomber jacket.

At the end of world war I, the US army created the Aviation Clothing Board and started distributing these heavy leather jackets.

By the time World War II broke out, the US Air Corp was distributing the A-2 Bomber Jacket.  The Navy and Marine Corp were issued a similar jacket that became known as the G-1.

As aircraft technology developed throughout the war, airplanes were now flying at much higher altitudes and much higher speeds.  Temperatures inside these planes – often flying with open doors – plummeted!    And the stylish bomber jackets started to give way to a much warmer jacket with a lining of wool or fur.  These new jackets were popularized by the B3 Bomber Flight Jacket, a large wool and fur lined jacket with large cargo pockets.

Ground personnel and flight crews quickly adopted the pilot’s B3 Bomber Jacket and the new B7 Flight Jacket became the instant rage.

A decade later introduced the new age of the jet with its enclosed compartments and more attention needed to be paid to the warmth, comfort, and safety of the pilots.  The B-15 Flight Jacket was designed out of nylon and other synthetic materials to keep the pilot both warm and dry.  The lighter weight and more flexible comfort was also appreciated.  As jet technology continued to develop, the MA-1 jacket removed the fur collars because they interfered with the harness of the pilot’s parachute.  Today, you can often find both the B-15 and the Leather MA-1 Flight Jackets with and without the fur collars.

A classic flight jacket or bomber jacket is consider a both a stylish and practical piece of clothing.  Suitable for a night out on the town or a practical outdoor excursion – and should be in every man’s closet.

African Violet Culture

African Violets are one of the most exciting plants among the house plant enthusiast but as yet many of their admirers know very little about them. The name Saintpaulia, which they are so often called, was derived from Baron von Walter Saint Paul. Who discovered them in the late 1800’s in East Africa.

Their popularity has of course, brought color experimentations. Today instead of just the original purple color we have white, pink, reds, and many tints and shades of blue and purple as well as the bi-colors. Many varieties are adimired for their beautiful and distinguished foliage as well as their blessouis,

African violets grow best with plenty of light, not necessarily direct sun light. However some varieties will thrive nicely in a sunny window, while the more sensitive varieties just can’t thrive under such conditions. Yellowing, of the leaves is often one of the first signs of too much or too hot sun. At present I am using a well lighted sunporch to propagate my plants. The windows are shaded by tall trees. So far all varieties seem to be thriving.

Although African violets cannot be casually trusted to the open gar den they can be killed with too much kindness. They really require very little care. Do not over Water, as this is more harmful to your plants than too little water. Since the size and type of the pots the variety and size of the plant involved, the weather, the season, the temperature and the amount of sunshine are all factors affecting the amount of water needed, it may quite opposite practices that will succeed under varying conditions. I water only when the top of the soil feels dry to the touch. I never use cold water (luke- warm is best) and I always water from the bottom, giving just enough to moisten the soil nicely. Never leave the plant setting in water after the soil has become wet. I find that severe drying may seriously injure the leaves and limit the blossoms, while too much water may cause crown rot, eventually the plant will begin wilting. and rot off.

Propagation is much more successful in the late spring and summertime, because to root and send up small plants readily the leaves require warm soil. Some who have hot water radiators in their home report excellent luck during the cooler months by keeping the propagation pots setting on the radiators. I start my leaves by dusting the stem which I am to put in the ground with rootone, then immediately putting into the prepared soil. I put about one half-inch of the stem into the: dirt. I like the using a bagged African violet soil mix from the garden center.

I would like to suggest to anyone collecting violets to examine closely new plant additions for insect pests and to grow them under observation away from other, plants for 2 or 3- weeks. Here are a few suggestions in case you are unfortunate enough to get some of these pests. If they are very bad, you will save some time and temper to destroy the plant and start with a healthy new one. Aphids or Plant lice - Neem oil is a good natural pesticide.

Mealy Bugs - Touch each of the enemies with alcohol applied with q-tip.

Cyclamen Mites - These little invisible mites are probably African violets worse enemy. They cause stunting and curling of the leaves. The best combat for these little pests are frequent application of Neem oil or Malathion.

Skin Care For Your Baby

A business that is growing everyday is the baby care market. In America the baby care has brought in about 7.5 billion dollars per year. Due to the baby care industry have gotten larger, mothers should now be more educated about what they are putting on their baby’s skin.

Baby skin is a lot different then adults skin and it needs to be cared for differently. This is similar to baby care most of the time. Infant skin is formed before they are born so it is in the dark and it is in liquid until the baby is born. The skin of the infant needs to adjust to a lot of changes. When people age the skin thickens, so baby’s skin is very thin and has a fine texture. Therefore infant skin has many challenges to face to keep in moisture and protect itself from the environment.

It is very important to maintain the baby’s pH of the skin between 4-6, by doing this it ensures that the mantel of acid is supported. It is best to never use products that have animal products or any that have by-products. Any fragrance could be irritating on a baby’s skin so it would be best to avoid any fragrance at all. Which this can be frequently confused with baby care occassionally. It is best to make sure that the product that you are considering is tested by a paediatrician and also a dermatologist also. There are many products that just stat that they are hypoallergenic and that they are recommended.

Some things that would be good for your baby’s skin is vitamin A, vitamin E, oat extract, and Shea butter. When you clean your baby make sure that you use a very mild soap. Avoid at all costs Sodium Laural Sulfate this can clog the baby’s pores. Which this is not like adult skin many times. However you choose to take care of baby’s skin, enjoy bath time and the great time after.

Be Smart About Your Choice of Lodging When Visiting Destinations In Southern California

If you have not taken a long trip by Amtrak  for a vacation, the time may have come to think about it. Many North American destination cities are easily accessible by train. Given how beautiful and interesting our country is, the trip itself can be a big part of the total enjoyment.

San Diego is one of the best-known and most appreciated vacation destinations in the US.  It’s very simple to take AMTRAK to the historic station and then use public transit for getting around locally; you can even take the train up north to several Legoland hotels.  San Diego is distributed across a tighter radius than other parts of southern California, notably Orange County and Los Angeles. In fact, a lot of the attractions can be experienced as a pedestrian.

What if your vacation strategy includes a search to find adrenaline-pumping roller coasters?  Here we’re speaking of Knott’s Berry Farm and Six Flags Magic Mountain (aka Magic Mountain to the locals). The SoCal Guru  notes that these two destinations have focused directly on roller coasters and thrill rides to differentiate themselves from Disneyland.

You won’t find any place with more edgy thrill rides and coasters than Six Flags Magic Mountain. Of course some in your group may not be roller coaster fanatics, and there are many other rides and activities to be enjoyed, as you can learn at the SoCal Guru website.

Knott’s Berry Farm also has really focused on thrill rides, although they offer Camp Snoopy, Ghost Town and many other fun attractions and themed areas within the park. We have talked to employees who can confirm that several of the roller coasters at Knott’s will push you to the limit of comfort.

We know where to find Mickey Mouse and all his Disney friends-in Anaheim. If you’d like some good information about planning a trip to the Disneyland Resort, check out the SoCal Vacation Guru, which can fill you in on hotels near Disneyland and other places. Nobody has done a better job of breathing life into fictional characters than the Disney folks.

Hit Universal Studios Hollywood and you can find Spiderman, Betty Boop, the Flintstones, Woody Woodpecker and a squadron of other beloved Universal characters that have been at the heart of many television shows and famous movies. You can find some good details about hotels near Universal Studios Hollywood from the SoCal Vacation Guru.

Whatever your primary vacation objective may be, it is important to be smart about where you stay.  If you are not a little bit careful, a major part of your vacation will be spent on the freeway driving to your destinations.  Who wants to waste precious vacation time on needless driving?

Website Design Life Cycle

Web development although very flexible and dynamic can follow the time-honed and tested methods used in systems development. Here we have identified which phases are applicable and added those are that unique to the esoteric world of the web.

Note: All throughout this document, the words web sites, web applications, web-based applications and intranet/extranets will be used interchangeably.

1. Analysis
This is the phase that most of the higher management and the ROI-concerned folks do not fully appreciate since there is no tangible output in this stage. The analysis phase is very vital as this is when you answer the tough questions: How will the web application help the present system? How is it going to help the business? Equally important is the question: How will the website complement or be integrated into the current or existing system?

Analyzing the pros and cons, setbacks and pay-offs of the website need not be too time-consuming and resource-intensive. Focus should be given to the identification of target audience, existing resources that can be utilized (e.g. a database, an excel file of customers, etc.) and ways that the website could be fully exhausted. For example, a client plans on publishing their product catalogue online; why not employ an online shopping cart and payment system? This way traffic to the site is fully monetized.

At the end of this stage, the team should be able to come up with complete cost-benefit analysis and the identified goals should be realistic. The analyst should consult the website designers, developers and testers to gauge the effectiveness and viability of the plan.

2. Specification Building
Preliminary specifications are drawn up to cover each and every element of the requirement. For example, if the product is an online store then the modules of the site such as the general layout, site navigation, and other dynamic parts are identified. Feature-rich projects will require various levels of consultation to assess additional business and technical requirements. This is the stage where you identify the who, what and when: what technology to use; who among the group is best suited to do the codes for each and every module; when is the expected delivery of the product.

After reviewing and approving the preliminary document, a written proposal is then presented to the client. The document should outline the scope of the project including the responsibilities, timeline and cost.

3. Website Design and Development
After the specification of the project has been identified and the proposal signed by the client, work on the web site commences. Normally, the site layout and navigation will be designed during this phase as prototype.

Two to three study designs are offered for client viewing and approval. Some client might demand to see the full functional prototype - then the team has to show them the interactivity of the site’s various features.

In most cases, the client will give suggestions and require a lot of changes on the prototype. Once a final version of the design, layout and navigation has been achieved with the client’s approval, of course, you should freeze the prototype before you start the codes.

We need a quick definition of FREEZE here. It is a method to make both parties to agree on how the web site will look like and function on the launch day.

The development team during this phase will start the database structure. All necessary information should be had from the client, such as access to test servers and database, ftp login, sample data, and images they would like displayed in the site.

Personal Injury Lawyers in Your City

You have been recently seriously injured in an incident, and you’re thinking about what direction to go next. Will you leave the accident settlement up to your insurer? A courtroom reporter will type all the responses which you give under oath, and the responses will be thoroughly examined by the insurance provider in order to uncover loopholes that will allow them to provide less money.

Your personal injury law firm could also advise that you undergo a mediation procedure to be able to reconcile the outcome more quickly. This is required in several states, and might help you to negotiate outside of court in case you are trying to avoid a trial.
