California the new Mexico?

southern california government
fateridder asked:

SAN FRANCISCO – California is again forging its own path on immigration reform by becoming the first state to prohibit landlords from asking tenants’ immigration status.

Amid frustration over the federal government’s failure to reform immigration laws, cities across the country have taken their own action to keep out illegal immigrants, including barring property from being rented to undocumented tenants.

The law signed this week by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenneger elicited a sigh of relief among landlord associations concerned that without it, they’d be forced to take on the cost and the liability of enforcing federal laws as “de-facto immigration cops,” said Nancy Ahlswede, executive director of the Apartment Association, California Southern Cities.

Why is there not more allocation of manpower to the completion of freeways in Southern California?

excelonx asked:

Considering Los Angeles is the only developed city without a proper subway system and that auto lobbies (lobbys?) have kept our State and local governments from properly building one, why doesn’t the State and Local governments push for faster completion of freeway systems? The amount of loss both in time and financially while stuck on the freeway is ridiculous. When expanding the freeway a few lanes, it becomes a task which takes years for completion! Yet, I only see work done in one very small portion at a time. Shouldn’t the priority of a State with a predominant travel method of automobiles concentrate their manpower on the building of the freeway systems? Can someone please explain this to me?

What does the pro amnesty intend to do about this Mexican border region is experiencing raising crime rate?

southern california government
I’m gonna start another riot asked:

The federal government acknowledges that the United States-Mexican border region has been experiencing an alarming rise in the level of criminal cartel activity, including drug and human smuggling, which has placed significant additional burdens on Federal, State, and local law enforcement agencies The U.S. border with Mexico extends nearly 2,000 miles along the southern borders of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. In most areas, the border is located in remote and sparsely populated areas of vast desert and rugged mountain terrain with vast open water of the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific oceans.

The U.S. government admits that the border´s vast length and varied terrain poses significant challenges to U.S. law enforcement efforts to control the entry of individuals and goods into the United States.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is the federal agency with primary responsibility to detect and prevent illegal entry into the United States. The latest available data indicates that approximately 11,000 CBP agents patrol the nearly 6,000 miles of international border the United States shares with its neighbors Mexico and Canada. While the Southwest border hosts robust legal commercial activity, the border also is the site of violent criminal enterprises. These enterprises are carried out by organized criminal syndicates of Mexican/American cartels, gangs and international terrorist which include the smuggling of WMD’s, drugs, humans, weapons, and cash across the U.S.Mexico border.

With the latest available government static’s reporting that during 2005, Border Patrol apprehended approximately 1.2 million illegal aliens; of those 165,000 were from countries other than Mexico. Of the non-Mexican aliens, approximately 650 were from so called special interest countries. Special interest countries are those designated by the intelligence community as countries that could export individuals that could bring harm to our country in the way of terrorism. Global Terrorist And Drug Trafficking Cartels are

a significant portion of illegal activity at the border that relates to illegal drug smuggling. The triple plus threat of drug smuggling, illegal and unknown crossers and rising violence are the reality facing communities.

Newman asked:

I’ve been a teacher in southern California for fourteen years and I’ve about had it with politics, red tape, credentialing issues, etc… Teaching is no longer fun for me. I’d like to look for a new job/carreer next summer, but I’m not sure what I’m qualified to do. All of my education, up to a master’s degree, and work experience are in teaching. I’ll miss the vacation time (who wouldn’t), but I think my happiness and well being are more important. Any suggestions on where to start? Anyone want to offer me a job?
If it makes any difference, I’m a guy. There are men teachers too.
